My Gluten Free meal at Hippo Falafel - for 23 NIS!

Falafel is itself a traditionally gluten free food composed of chickpeas, spices, garlic, semese seeds, and fried in oil! Unfortunately, however, sometimes modern chefs will add a few spoonfuls of flour to help keep things from falling apart (a bad excuse!) so it is important to always be vigilant and ask just in case! But at Hippo Falafel you never have to worry! Their falafel are Gluten Free and fried to perfection. Not only are the Falafel themselves GF but they offer GF pita too! Although as we all know, the GF pita can be more difficult to work with - so at Hippo Falafel they opt to put iton the side of your meal, and you can assemble on your own, or use it to soak up their great hummus! They warm up the GF Pita in the back and put it directly on a tray with a fresh sheet of wax paper on it, so risk of contamination is on the low side.
At Hippo Falafel, the Falafel themselves are made of healthier and organic ingredients and are absolutely delicious! Perfectly fried, hot and fresh, and not too much parsley (my preference), they were top notch! Their condiments bar was banging with at least 6 topping selections for your culinary perusal, ranging in flavors and spiciness (be sure to try the garlic - the light green on the right of the pic, yum!!). They also offer Sabich, Hummus, and Chips. Located across from Rabin Square, just look for the green awning!
One other thing to know - when I was there the employee did not speak English. So if that is the case when you visit, what you need to say is: "Falafel im pita bli gluten" which means "Falafel with pita without gluten." (In fact, knowing the phrase "bli gluten" is helpful in general!) Then they will point to the various salads and sauces and ask you if you want them, so you can point and nod, or say "ken" (yes) or "lo" (no). Not too difficult, nor too intimidating!
Enjoy!
